• Hello world!

Two fashion graduates with a thing for out of the box accessories. That is where it started from. From the endless hours spent on experimenting with various materials in college, trips to craft clusters and hanging out on the streets of Charminar to understand how beautiful things are made. Our days rolled on as we basked in the warm smell of Irani chai and Osmania biscuits surrounded by the glitz of coloured stones, metals and oodles of vintage remnants. Over time, we’ve matured into two souls intent about giving people soulful accessories that carry a story and a bit of our heritage.

So, here we are presenting the same to you as Ishma, representing a bright, colourful glow and reflecting our love for colours and groovy designs.
With us, you can shop for jewellery of quality for all occasions. Along with bracelets, neckpieces, earrings and finger rings, we also have fabulous body jewellery for the bold and beautiful divas.

  • Pawanism

What does one expect to see at a place that is famous for it’s art and beautiful craftsmanship? Well, I expected to see hordes of artisans working passionately with their tools. I was excited to see their hands at work churning out beauties. I wanted the greenery and cool breeze of the village to touch me. I was flabbergasted by what I saw!

I saw greenery alright, but I also only saw a battered old board saying Etikoppaka Toys Museum and just next to it,I saw a brightly coloured, freshly printed, larger than life cut outs of Power star Pawan Kalyan and Megastar Chiranjeevi.

One of the posters said “”Did you watch Pawan’s movie?” is not the right question to be asked, “how many times did you watch his movie?” is the right one!”

It was then that I realised that I was there on the day when Khaidi No.150 got released. Continue Reading

  • Pembarthy, a slice of our History!

With a history of over 5,000 years, Pembarthy, a village in Jangaon district of Telangana sure did create a niche for itself. The brass handicrafts of this village are famous world over…
But, our first visit to this nonchalant village in 2016 was a rather surprising experience, with not many people to interact with.
As we finally managed to speak to the artisans, we came to a conclusion that we’d give a little zing to their perishing art by collaborating with them.
What caught our eye, Right from making moulds of clay to polishing, the whole process of making an artefact – cutting, casting, welding – is done without using the modern day machinery, which makes Pembarthy’s brass artefacts stand a notch higher than the rest. Idols, mementoes or shields, you name it they nail it! But that wasn’t what we were looking for. We wanted more from these craftsmen, jewellery! Impressed by their skills, we pushed for what they’ve not tried for all these years… And the result? Well, it’s up for sale on Ishma!

  • Wear a piece of history!

Dramatizing the Hindu epics in the times before television, the Indian art form of ‘Tholu Bommalata’ (Leather puppetry) holds clues to our traditions and history through its artefacts…
Inspired by the beauty of the art-form and noticing the plight of artisans trying to keep the craft alive and make a living, we at Ishma took a step towards reviving this age-old craft through design and innovation. The overwhelming intricacy and the effort artisans take to create each of these handcrafted beauties left us intrigued during our visit to Nimmalakunta, a peaceful little village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
At the artisan’s home-cum-workshop, with sheets of leather and paint all around we settled down to learn and absorb everything we could about the craft right from the people giving it life..their history, making, the artisans and their experiences.
Combined with these learnings, research and hours of working together over days, we’ve come up with a collection of beautiful fashion accessories for the women of today. Let us know what you think <3

  • The trip to Gypsies

Amidst dusty hillocks, in Rangareddy District of Telangana, lies a seemingly quiet village. Before we started, we drew out a route map on the backside of a visiting card and started our journey. We were told Google maps aren’t going to be a great help. We packed a box of needles, threads, beads we thought we might need, some sketches of the products we imagined we’ll make etc. We packed lunch too and a water bottle. Loaded these into the car and set forth.
Arched tree branches over the road offered shade and cool breeze. Abruptly, we come to a junction after which we had no clue where to go. We ask the locals and they ask us to take the next left. That left seemed never ending! Winding kaccha road around the hillocks offering us a teasing view of the village from afar. It was both fun and exhausting.
Finally we got there and asked for the lady we sought to meet. she is a local leader of sorts, with a better grasp on the business aspect. Within minutes, Lakshmi gathered a bunch of women from the village under a huge banyan tree amidst mud houses of thatched roofs. The women tell us Lakshmi is like a teacher to them, as they start telling us their stories.
